Run for Seafarer 2018

A Marathon in Chandigarh

25th June will mark the yearly ‘Day of the Seafarer’ (DotS). The world will celebrate it at different ports and cities. Chandigarh too is celebrating this significant day in the seafarers’ lives by organizing “Run for Seafarer” 2018 Marathon on Sunday, 24th of June 2018. TMC Foundation and KCS Foundation in association with Alexarya Foundation are organizing this event in association with TMC Shipping and TheMaritimeAcademy. Many national and regional organizations are supporting the event such as RedFM 93.5 (Radio Partner), Brand Th3ory (Design and Digital Marketing Partner), The Caravel Group, Fleet Management Limited, Three Bees ShippingVivo, Kingfisher, BigEye Advertising, BS Events Cruise, CMMI (The company of Master Mariners of India) and The Nautical Institute.

TMC Foundation is continuously working towards the betterment of the seafaring community and getting them recognition for the hardships they face and the work they do. The objective of organizing this marathon is to increase awareness among people of Chandigarh, Panchkula, Mohali and nearby areas about the hard work and commitment showcased by seafarers. Neeraj Kumar, President TMC Foundation shared, “We want to make people of Chandigarh understand what people of seafaring community are doing for all of us land dwellers. We want people from Tricity i.e. Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali and from nearby locations to come and support this initiative by running the marathon – Run for Seafarers. Chandigarh is slowly and steadily emerging as a major Shipping Support Hub and we hope that the people from this region will continue to support our initiatives for seafarers.”

Marathon – Run for Seafarers

This marathon will take place on 24th June, 2018. You should be between 14 to 65 years to run in this marathon. The marathon is scheduled to start at 5:25 AM. However, participants are requested to gather at the starting point i.e. outside TMC Shipping Pvt. Ltd.office, S.C.O. 270, Sector-14, Panchkula at 4 AM. The registrations would happen on the spot. There’s no registration fee, it’s free. Here the participants will be divided into four groups- General, Seafarers, Women, and Senior Citizens. Three prizes will be given in each category. All participants who finish the course will also receive certificates of completion.

Race Course

The course for the marathon is approximately 21 kilometers. It starts and finishes outside the TMC Shipping office in sector 14 Panchkula. The marathon will start at 5.25 am after flag-off by present dignitaries. From the starting point the runners will run on Amartex road towards Tank Chowk. From here they will take left on  Chandigarh-Panchkula Road towards Housing Board Chowk. The runners will continue on the same road crossing Kalagram and Railway Station Chowk Bus Stop. They need to keep running straight ahead crossing Transport Chowk on Madhya Marg. Then they need to keep running on Madhya Marg until it intersects with Sarovar Path at Sector 7-18 roundabout. From here runners will take a right on to Sarovar Path and continue for 5.3 kms. Then they’ll take another right turn and continue on this lane until they reach Durga Plant Nursery crossing Butterfly Park on the way. Then they need to take a right turn to return towards Railway Station Chowk. Then they will turn right and continue on Chandigarh-Panchkula Road towards Housing Board Chowk. At the Housing Board Chowk they’ll turn right towards Panchkula and continue on this road passing Sector 8-18 Chowk, 9-17 Chowk, 10-15 Chowk on the way until they reach Sector 11-14 Chowk. Here take they need to a right towards Amartex Road and continue until they return to the starting point i.e. the TMC Shipping office in sector 14 Panchkula.

Water stalls will be set up at different points throughout the Marathon course. On returning to the finishing point i.e. TMC Shipping Office the participants will be provided refreshments. The final certificate and prize distribution will also take place here.

Women Category

Second Prize – Rs 5100

Third Prize – Rs 2100

Seafarers Category

Second Prize – Trophy and Certificate

Third Prize – Trophy and Certificate

Senior Citizen Category

First Prize – Rs 5100

Second Prize – Trophy and Certificate
