Maritime is among the key sectors in the development of every nation as it is related to sea trade, naval matters, etc. Many people want to make their career in this respectable industry but only a few are able to get an opportunity to work on a ship.
In the last few years, the Indian Shipping industry has recognized as the largest merchant shipping fleet among the developing countries. Today around 90 percent of the nation’s trade is managed through maritime transport.
5th April is marked as an important day for every Indian nationalist as on this day in 1919 the first Indian ship owned by Scindia Steam Navigation Company Ltd. journeyed to the United Kingdom.
Every year organizations associated with maritime educational firms and other associated organizations organize an event to salute the spirit of Indian seafarers who have lost their lives at sea and for those who are making an effort in developing the Indian Merchant Navy as a global power.
This year, National Maritime Day Committee, Chandigarh in association with NI-NW Chandigarh & CMMI Chandigarh Chapter organized an event at Bougainvillea Garden and War Memorial, Chandigarh. Among others who were there to attend the event is TMC Shipping Managing Director Mr. Neeraj Kumar, NMDC President Captain MD Kahlon, CMMI Chairman Captain Ghottra, Fleet Management Head Captain Sujlana, Nautical Institute Head Captain M.S. Kahlon, MNOA, and Aryavart Maritime Institute Head Captain Arora.
Many Seafarers, their families, and friends were requested to join in solemn memory of those who made sea their home. The event was well supported by TMC Shipping, The Nautical Institute, FOSMA, Wista, V.Group, Aryavart Maritime Institute, MAPS, Executive Ship Management, MNOA, CMMI, ELITE,49 WEB STREET, Fleet Management Limited.
The event was attended by Shri Manoj Kumar Parida, IAS, Advisor to Administrator U.T. Chandigarh to pay respect to the Indian Seafarers for their courage and commitment towards their work.
