Marathon – Run for Seafarer 2018

Day of the Seafarer Celebrations in Chandigarh

TMC Foundation and KCS Foundation in association with Alexarya Foundation and support of organizations like TMA, TMC Shipping, The Nautical Institute, Vivo, Kingfisher, RedFM, CMMI, BS Event Cruise, BigEye Advertising, Brand Th3ory, Caravel and Three Bees organized Run for Seafarers Marathon on International Day of Seafarers to show support towards seafarers organized Run for Seafarer 2018″ marathon.. The objective of the marathon was to express gratitude to the seafaring community for all that they do to keep the world trade moving. The idea was also to value their work and their contribution to the world economy as 90% of world’s trade is done with the help of Seafarers.

The marathon got good response from the people in and around Chandigarh. Approximately 800 people participated in the marathon. The registrations began at 4 AM. During the registrations, participants were provided t-shirts and allotment numbers. People of age group from 14 years to 65 years ran in the Run for seafarer’s marathon.

The marathon started from TMC Shipping Office, Sector 14, Panchkula.

All the authorities and Police Administration cooperated and helped in making this marathon a success. The participants ran with full energy and high spirit.

Marathon ended around 7:30 AM. After the marathon was finished, all the participants were thanked. All the participants were tired and restless. Water and Refreshments were arranged for them.

The award ceremony took place in the presence of Chief Guest Captain KJ Sujlana, President CMMI, Guest of Honor Captain MS Kalon, President, The Nautical Institute – London, Captain Arora, Alexarya Foundation, Ankit Sharma President, KCS Foundation and Neeraj Kumar President, TMC Foundation.

The participants were categorized into four group’s i.e. general, seafarers, women and senior citizens. Vishu won the first prize of Rs. 21,000/- in general category. The second prize of Rs. 11,000/- was awarded to Ravi Prakash whereas Gagan won the third prize of Rs. 5100/- in this category.

In the women category Anita, Mamta and Ramanjot Kaur bagged first, second & third positions respectively with Rs 11000, Rs 5100 and Rs 2100. In the category of seafarers, the first position was achieved by Rohan, Yuvraj stood second whereas Inderjeet secured the third position. Shamsher Singh won first prize of Rs 5100, Joginder Singh achieved second position and Sajini Roshan secured third position in the Senior Citizen Category.

After bestowing the winners with prizes, Business Head TMC Shipping, Anil Jinsi took over the stage and shared insights about careers in Merchant Navy. He said that opting for a career in Merchant Navy can help individuals combine a well-structured career path with clearly laid out promotions and professional growth. He further added that TMC shipping prepares students to make careers in Merchant Navy.

The Run for Seafarers marathon ended on a good note. It was an overwhelming day reflecting the joy and spirit of the participants. TMC Shipping and The Maritime Academy are highly obliged to all the people who attended the event and gave it their support. This day proved yet again that people of Chandigarh are always supportive of a good cause.
