IMU-CET 2018 Syllabus and Study Tips

People who are planning to pursue their career in Indian Merchant Navy are well versed with the term “IMU-CET” i.e. Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test which is regulated by the Indian Maritime University. It is an all India online common entrance test which is conducted for admission to the UG & PG courses in the field of maritime education. Here, there is some information related to IMU-CET 2018 syllabus and some important tips for your preparation then you will certainly. Every year thousands of students prepare for this entrance but only few are able to crack it. The reason behind it is the lack of knowledge about the syllabus, as what all needs to be done in order to prepare for the exam.

There are three common entrance tests held every year for respective programmes:

1 CET for UG Programmes which are as follows :

  1. Tech (Marine Engineering)
  2. Tech (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering)
  3. Sc. (Nautical Science)
  4. Sc. (Maritime Science)
  5. Sc. (Ship Building and Repair)
  6. Diploma Nautical Science

Now, let’s discuss about the syllabus for this CET so that you can prepare for it in the best possible way.

  1. No. of Questions – 200 multiple choice questions.
  2. Syllabus – English, General Aptitude, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics at Plus 2 level.

Important Tips for your preparation: Please start by preparing the complete syllabus of 11th and 12th Standard Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. You must also prepare English grammar and vocabulary. You can use ‘High School English Grammar and Composition‘ book by authors Wren & Martin for English grammar.

For improving vocabulary read books by English authors, magazines, newspapers etc. Editorial section of a newspaper is also a good place to start with.

You can also supplement your preparation with IMU-CET books like IMU-CET: Gateway to Maritime Education or IMU-CET PCM Multiple Choice Questions Bank and start preparing using them. Just ensure to keep your focus on the concepts from your CBSE 11th and 12th syllabus first.

Note: Please keep this in mind that CET is not for BBA as they can seek direct admission.

1 CET for MBA programmes which are as follows:

  1. MBA (International Transportation and Logistics)
  2. MBA (Port and Shipping Management)
  3. Sc. (Commercial Shipping and Logistics)

Note:  CET is only for admissions to the 50% of seats for the non-seafarer candidates

Now you must be wondering what would be the test structure and how you can go about your preparations. Well, here are the details for you.

  1. No. of Questions – 120 multiple choice questions.
  2. Syllabus – Quantitative ability, Data interpretation, Verbal ability and Logical reasoning.

Important Tips for your preparation: Those who are preparing for CAT, MAT and other similar MBA entrance exams are more or less on the right track in terms of preparation. For IMUCET, you can take reference books which are available for MBA entrances. However, keep your focus more on the topics highlighted in the syllabus.

1 CET for M.Tech Programme which are as follows:

  1. (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering)
  2. Tech (Dredging and Harbour Engineering)
  3. Tech (Marine Engineering and Management)

Talking about the syllabus for this CET, below are the details that will assist you to prepare for your test.

  1. No. of Questions – 120 multiple choice questions.
  2. Syllabus – English, Mathematics and one of Mechanical Engineering/Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering/Civil Engineering.

Important Tips for your preparation:  For this CET, you can start preparing by referring your last examination syllabus as you will get questions related to your subject.  Also, you can keep your focus on mathematics as well when you study it as this will assist you in your exam.

For English, the best way to prepare is start reading daily newspaper, magazines; take online grammar and vocabulary test. You may also take reference from other competitive exams study material.
