Keeping yourself Entertained While at Sea

When you are away at sea, your working hours are usually designated and your shifts decided. Only when an emergency arises you need to work when you weren’t scheduled to. So, what to do with your off duty hours! You don’t really have the option to go out unless the ship is docked. So here are a few tips to keep yourself entertained while at sea.

1. Learn Something:

Now with the advent of internet, many training videos are available for people looking to learn a new skill. Learning to play a musical instrument, a new dance style, operating new software or even speaking a new language can keep you busy and occupied while you are off duty. Once on shore dazzle your family and friends with newly acquired knowledge and skill.

2. Read:

Reading can keep you hooked for hours at a time. Different people enjoy different genres. Find which one appeals to you- thriller, romance, horror, drama, etc. Nowadays with kindle you can access thousands of books without carrying the weight.

3. Write:

Another way to keep busy is to start writing. You can write about your experiences at sea or even write letters to your loved ones. Writing is also helpful in letting go of your frustration and stress. So, if you have a flair for it, get writing.

4. Watch Movies:

Another way to keep yourself occupied is watching movies. There are so many good movies to catch up on. While on shore stock up your DVD collection or add movies to your collection and watch while at sea.

5. Listen to music:

Most of us can’t create music but most of us like listening to music. Listening to music can help you relax and let of the day’s stress as well keep you busy and entertained.
For those who have the will to be entertained, there’s no shortage of resources. Keep busy, keep happy.
