Shipping is the spine of the world economy. In 2010, to acknowledge the contribution and sacrifices made by seafarers and to increase the world’s awareness towards their work the International Maritime Organization (IMO) designated the 25th of June as the International Day of the Seafarer. This day is an acknowledgement of the fact that almost everything that all of us use in our daily lives has been affected directly or indirectly by the shipping industry and the people who work in it. It is a call to people all across the world to wake up and notice the unparalleled hard-work put in by these men and women who have made a career at sea. The aim is to express our gratitude towards the seafaring community for their contribution to the world economy and the civil society. The day is also an acknowledgement of the perils they face and the hardships they bear while at sea.
The theme for this year is “At Sea For All” which is an extension of the 2016 World Maritime Day theme, “Shipping: indispensable to the world”. The theme emphasizes on the important role seafarers play in our daily lives. This day should be utilized by all to express their heartfelt appreciation towards the seafarers.
Respecting the contributions of the seafaring community TMC Shipping and The Maritime Academy – TMA, under the aegis of The TMC Foundation have been using social media platforms to spread messages about the work done and contributions made by the seafarers all across the globe. We at TMC Foundation believe that one day is not enough to thank these brave men and women and hence we started our campaign on 20th June and plan to conclude it till on the 25th June with the end of the Day of the Seafarer.
At TMC foundation, we feel inspired by the work the maritime community does and we are proud of the role we play in serving the global maritime community through education, research and capacity building through the operations of both TMC shipping and TMA – The Maritime Academy. On the occasion of the Day of the Seafarer, we wish seafarers all across the globe a very happy Day of the Seafarer and we pray and hope for their well-being and prosperity. We also thank them and their families for enduring separation and loneliness for the sake of the World.
The Maritime Academy – TMA is proud to be a part of the educational community creating seafarers.
