7 Things Seafarers Can Look Forward to in 2017

Seafarers have always been known to be adventurers at heart and pioneers who sought new land and civilizations. As the New Year 2017 kicks off, let us find out what it has in store for this adventurous set:

1. Higher Employment Opportunities

The world is gradually warming up to the potential of the world’s oceans as a source for power and resources in general. Countries like Canada and the USA along with India have taken on massive coastline development and preservation projects which will span several years. This means employment opportunities will be aplenty in new year 2017.

2. Career Advancement

For people who are already employed in stable jobs in the marine sector, the boom in employment opportunities means chances for career advancement. Some marine cadets may desire a change in their current career path in the form of advancement. The abundance of jobs forecasted will make it easier for them to grab jobs of higher designations.

3. Wage Stability

According to the latest sources it has become known that the council for seafaring employees has fixed the wage for cadets at a pre-decided number until the year 2018. Okay, obviously salary and wages are supposed to increase with time, but on the bright side cadets are assured of a wage that won’t fall below a predetermined standard.

4. Shorter Contracts

The trend of gradual rise in hiring of marine candidates has resulted in organizations offering more flexibility in how they employ seafaring cadets. This is resulted in employers handing out contracts which are shorter and more flexible in its terms. This enables the marine cadet to pick and choose when to go offshore and when to remain on land.

5. Better Security from Pirates

While jobs at sea are unique and offer a refreshing opportunity for cadets to see the world while they work, they also involve greater risks. A significant risk of being at sea is being attacked by seaborne pirates. Going by the recent set of pirate incidents in 2016, coastal policing authorities have stepped up to the plate by increasing protection for sea faring vessels. So, you can expect better security in the New Year 2017.

6. Better Navigation

Navigation is one of the basic requirements for using the sea as transport. With increasing advances in naval navigation devices, sailing the high seas has become a less daunting task than it used to be. The advances in navigational science have resulted in the creation of newer ways to guide sea faring vessels. This means cheaper devices which are more efficient than ever, allowing laymen to become fully able seamen!

7. Environmental Awareness

This may sound generic in nature, but with each passing day people are becoming more and more eco-conscious and environment friendly. This translates to all aspects of the environment. People are recycling trash, up-cycling waste and eliminating waste generation all together. This is seen especially in coastal areas where people used to pollute the most. This will come as a pleasant surprise to the seafarer every time he/she goes offshore or docks!

Hence, the New Year 2017 brings along a lot to look forward to for the seafarers and the shipping industry.

  1. I’ve been browsing online greater than 3 hours these days, yet I never discovered any attention-grabbing article like yours.
It’s pretty value enough for me. In my opinion, if all website owners and bloggers made excellent content material as you probably did, the
net will probably be a lot more helpful than ever before.
